Gable patios in Bundaberg.

A gable patio rises to a central ridge with an open end, so the ceiling is higher and the roof has a real pitch. In the Bundaberg climate that geometry earns its keep: hot air rises and vents out through the gable rather than pooling under a low flat roof, so on a still summer afternoon the space underneath feels noticeably cooler. The raised line also opens up the room, which matters over a larger alfresco or pool area where a flat skillion can feel low and boxed in. Aesthetically, a gable lifts the whole back of the house and works beautifully on the wide eaves of a traditional Queenslander as well as on newer homes around Avoca and Branyan.

Single-skin or insulated gable.

You can build a gable in single-skin Colorbond for the most economical version, or in insulated sandwich panel for a cooler, quieter, finished ceiling. Many Bundaberg owners go insulated on a gable to combine the natural ventilation of the pitch with the heat and noise control of the panel, then add downlights and fans for a genuine outdoor room. Engineering the higher roof for Region C.

A taller, pitched roof catches more wind, which makes correct engineering even more important in Region C. The gable framing, ridge beam, posts and footings are all sized to your assessed AS 4055 wind classification under AS 1170.2, with certified Form 15 and Form 16 engineering.
